David Sandlin is a painter, illustrator and cartoonist who has called New York’s Lower East Side his home for the past 25 years. David has a rich body of work that’s well worth digging into including his book and corresponding show Land of 1,000 Beers which features his recurring theme of “Sinland”.

Featured here is Mortgage, a recent four-color screenprinted artists’ book of David’s work, printed by Dernier Cri. It’s 20-pages at 8 x 11 1/2 inches and bursting with color and surreal horror imagery. You can pick up a copy from the Booklyn Artists Alliance web shop.

Providence-based cartoonist C.F. (Christopher Forgues) works in a style that’s hard to pin down, but unmistakably his own. He uses a loose drawing style which is a great vehicle to inject his brand of abstract humor into often humorless subjects like epic sci-fi, crime and drama. The overall effect is as surreal as it is absurd.

In 2012, C.F. self-published a series of mini comics which were distributed through his Twitter account. PictureBox has collected these minis plus unpublished art and photos into a new 180-page book called Mere. You can purchase Mere directly from the PictureBox website.

Nobrow 8: HYSTERIA is the latest edition of UK small press publisher Nobrow’s anthology of contemporary cartoonists and illustrators. It’s release in the form of 2 full-color magazines rolled into one and sealed with a double cover. The line-up features some of the best of not only UK, but worldwide: Jim Rugg, Emmanuelle Walker, Sam Bosma, Marta Monteiro, David Lucas, Kenard Pak, Bob Flynn, Keith Negley, Carmen Segovia, Gwendal Le Bec, Robin Davey, Andrea Kalfas, William Grill, Luke Pearson, Dustin Harbin, José Domingo, Matteo Farinella and Dilraj Mann.

As with most everything Nobrow releases, it’s a thing of beauty. Here’s what they have to say about #8′s theme of Hysteria:

We can all agree what the prevalent mood seems to be these days: Hysteria! And what the hell’s wrong with that?! The world seems to be taking a turn for the worse, so we let 14 of the world’s leading comic creators and more than 30 of the very best illustrators take the theme of Hysteria for a whirl. Hopefully they’ll shed some light on all the madness.
